There's Money to be Made Selling Used Cell Phones

By jones · Wednesday, October 14th, 2009 · No Comments »

Cellular phones have become increasingly popular in the past few years to the point where it’s almost reached the point where we view them as having little value, so much so that many people throw away their old phones upon upgrading to a new model. This is very far from the case though, and in fact there’s a very large market out there looking for used and refurbished cell phones at affordable prices. Knowing what to do with your used Sprint cell phones could be the difference between a fistful of dollars, or a slightly larger garbage bag.

To begin, you’ll need to first gather a good collection of refurbished cell phones, which can be accomplished through multiple avenues. Friends and relatives are a great start, as they’ll often be more than willing to pass along their old phones for a worthy cause. Those contacts alone won’t be nearly enough to begin a full-fledged cell phone business though, so you’ll need to keep your eyes peeled for other opportunities to snatch up used and refurbished cell phones on the cheap. Keep an eye out for things like business liquidation sales, as well as online shops and auctions. You may also want to advertise your services online and in local papers, emphasizing both the buying and selling aspects of your business.

Once you get your hands on a good number of phones, you can begin to research and price them. Some phones will of course be worth much more than others, and accurately pricing your phones will go a long way towards making your business successful. The easiest way to identify any given phone is by the serial number contained on the back of the phone. With so many phones looking nearly identical, but potentially having vastly different capabilities, properly identifying each phone will allow you to accurately judge their worth.

With a good idea of the value of your phones, you can now begin to sell them. Let’s start with the phones which hold little value, and are either unlikely to be sold individually, or simply aren’t worth the effort to hang on to. Bundle all of these up and find a cell phone wholesaler who will take these off your hands for a decent lump sum. All told, you probably won’t get rich selling these phones, but you may be able to make a small profit or break even from these less desirable models.

Then you can begin to sell the more popular phones that you’ve collected by opening up an Ebay Seller’s account, and putting the unlocked cell phones up for auction. If you already have a good Seller’s account, it should be no problem to sell your phones for a great price. If you’re a new account holder, you may not get the same degree of auction action on your items, but stick with it and this will slowly change for the better. Once the entire process is complete, you can count up your profits and begin the process all over again.

Purchase Prepaid Refurbished Cell Phones For A Secondary Line

By jones · Sunday, October 11th, 2009 · No Comments »

It’s no secret that cellular carriers vary in their coverage areas, which can limit customers’ ability to use their services while they travel nationwide. However, some carriers aren’t found in other parts of the country, which can cause problems for customers who spend a lot of time traveling outside of their carrier’s network.

Nearly all carriers charge their customers high roaming rates when they are outside their local area despite the fact that the provider has service in the area the customer has traveled to. In some cases, customers are charged upwards of 60 cents/minute for calls outside of their service area. On many phones, a visual symbol warns callers that they are in an area that is outside their local calling plan and will be subjected to roaming rates. The problem: most people fail to notice this symbol.

There’s also the issue that people with particular cell phone services may travel to an area that the provider doesn’t have coverage. This usually leads to dropped calls or the inability to make/receive calls. If a phone has GPS services, this makes the service unusable, which can obviously cause more problems for people in unfamiliar territory.

A simple and cost effective solution to this problem is to invest in one of the readily available used Verizon phones for the sole purpose of signing up for a third party prepaid phone service. You don’t get rid of your other cell phone provider; just use the prepaid service phone when you are traveling to places that would otherwise cost you roaming fees or make you unreachable.

So how does it all work with prepaid providers? What makes them different? These providers lease tower signals from the major providers around the country, allowing their users to get a signal in the majority of areas where cell phone towers are found. An advantage of used cell phones and prepaid providers is the lack of local calling areas you need to worry with. These services generally charge a flat per-minute rate and have no roaming fees. Your prepaid used cell phone can be employed in the event your regular service provider is unavailable; this type of service can save your life. The best part is that there’s no surprise phone bill since you use minutes on your prepaid phone. For many people, this is a great appeal (especially those people who don’t need an extra bill but need a cell phone).

If this sounds like a good idea, you’re probably wondering how to get started. Check out your local stores or search online to purchase used, refurbished, or unlocked cell phones and connect it to a third party prepaid service providers within minutes.

Palm Adding The Pre To Sprints Wireless Phone Lineup

By jones · Saturday, October 10th, 2009 · No Comments »

The Palm Pre is one of the more popular Phones for Sprint to be released. The design is undoubtedly a good looking one, and when holding the Palm Pre cell phone in your hand it most certainly feels great (and it feels solid as well).

On the outside of the phone the Palm Pre is coated in a shiny plastic that is smudge resistant and gives it a sleek look. It has a 480 by 320 3.1 inch screen that runs edge to edge and this phone is a slider phone. When the phone is slid open the Palm Pre reveals a qwerty keyboard. On The back of the phone you will find that there is a camera with a flash.

Under the hood this phone has a TI OMAP3 processor and 8gb of storage space. There is also a sensor for proximity and light, these sensors allow for dimming of the light when you have the phone by your ear (talking). there is also an accelerometer allowing for the phone to know when it is turned sideways.

Overall the Palm Pre feels like a solid phone and is a job well done and is certainly an added value to the Sprint lineup of cell phones and devices.

Downloading Games for Your Mobile Phone

By jones · Saturday, September 26th, 2009 · No Comments »

Mobile phones are not just about making calls anymore. A single device is capable of being a phone, a camera, a messenger service, a media and music player, a personal organizer, as well as allowing you to make video calls and have access to the internet. It can be downright astonishing how much a mobile can do! As if that were not enough, you can also get some amazingly fun mobile games that can be yours at the touch of a button.

Mobile games can be anything from cutting edge Java games to classics like Tetris and Snake. There is a wide array of games to pick from: Console games, games based on popular movies, and completely original games designed for your phone. To download games, just use your laptop or mobile phone to go online, and choose as many as you want to download to your phone.

Requirements for mobile games will vary. For the latest and most exciting selection, your mobile needs to have the Java application installed on it. If you’re looking for incredible graphics and maximum entertainment, you’ll need Java. Loads of newer mobile phones come with Java already installed. If you’re phone is compatible but doesn’t currently have it, you need to contact your network provider and ask for the best way to download it onto your phone.

You can download games directly to your phone, of course, but it is also possible to download them onto your computer and then upload the games with Infrared, a USB connection or Bluetooth.  For the highest quality games, you will definitely want to download them from a reliable source that specializes in mobile games.  See if your network provider’s website offers games; they would be assured of being compatible with your phone and would come from a trustworthy source.  It is important to know where you are downloading your mobile games from, particularly if you want to avoid getting viruses on your computer.

In order to download games onto your computer, it will be necessary first to transfer the files to your mobile. The most convenient way to do this is by using a USB connection, since nearly all phones can be connected physically to a computer. You do, however, have the option to sync your phone with your computer by using Infrared or Bluetooth.

There are so many awesome mobile games to choose from! Do you enjoy solving puzzles and working out problems? Perhaps you like quirky cartoon games? Whether it’s keeping pets or getting stuck into action packed missions, there’s something for everyone. Don’t just download games from anyone. Select the best providers and make sure you’re getting the best deal.

If there are any problems downloading mobile games, the best thing to do is to contact your network provider for assistance.  This can be done by calling their customer service number, getting in touch with them through their website, or even by visiting one of their stores.  There should not be any reason for you not to be able to download and enjoy all the games you want.

mobile downloads are useful and fun. Download games that will make your friends envious and once you’ve learned the best way to get mobile games on your phone, help your mates to do the same. There’s no end to the fun!

Mobile Phones: CDMA vs GSM What Does It All Mean?

By jones · Monday, September 7th, 2009 · No Comments »

Are you in the market for a new Cell Phone or PDA? Whether you are looking for a new BlackBerry Pearl, Curve or Storm, Samsung Instinct or Lotus or Palm Centro or Pre, or any other cellular phone or device that uses CDMA technology, you most likely would have considered going with Verizon Wireless or Sprint Cell Phones since both Verizon and Sprint currently use CDMA technology for their networks (CDMA is short for Code Division Multiple Access). CDMA, a competing cell phone service technology, competed with GSM. GSM (stands for Global System Mobile) uses SIM Cards, a small chip that goes in and out of the phone usually behind the battery area, and is widely used worldwide.

CDMA uses a “spread-spectrum” technique. This technology separates data and voice packets using codes, it then transmits that data and voice using a wide frequency range. By allocating more space for data, CDMA is an excellent technology for 3G. 3G is a high speed Internet connection for mobile phones.

The CDMA standard is primarily used in the United States as well as some parts of Asia, as opposed to GSM which is used worldwide. Currently both Verizon and Sprint use CDMA technology and T-Mobile as well as AT&T use GSM technology.

The National Health Service and 0300 numbers

By jones · Thursday, August 20th, 2009 · No Comments »

In August 2009, NHS Sefton in Merseyside launched a new phoneline for people to call to access free lifestyle information.

Healthy Sefton offers details about alcohol, smoking and physical activity that residents of the town can access by calling 0300 100 1000.

0300 Telephone Numbers are relatively new and are exclusively for public bodies and charities. They are ‘non-geographic’ numbers (like 0800 numbers and 0845 numbers etc.) and offer organisations many benefits compared to standard landline numbers.

Here are 10 reasons Healthy Sefton is using an 03 Number:

1) Like all non-geographic numbers, 03 numbers enable organisations to smarten up the way they deal with calls with intelligent features like introduction messages (“Thank you for calling Healthy Sefton”) and options menus (e.g. Press 1 for smoking information, 2 for advice about alcohol etc.)

2) Organisations can handpick a highly memorable number that their callers will recall easily.

3) 03 Numbers cost people the same to call as regular landline (01/02 numbers) even from a mobile phone (40% of all UK calls are now made from mobiles – Ofcom 2008). This makes them ethical phone numbers that are not subject to any negative publicity (which is of particular importance to publically funded bodies).

4) Calls to 03 numbers can be easily recorded for training purposes.

5) 03 numbers simply ‘sit’ on top of any landline or mobile number. No additional equipment or hardware is needed.

6) Callers can be queued, meaning that all important calls will be answered.

7) 03 numbers can easily move with an organisation if it relocates – they simply get ‘pointed’ at the new landline/mobile accordingly.

icon cool The National Health Service and 0300 numbers 03 numbers can be inexpensive to run if you seek out the provider with the most competitive offering on the market (e.g. 30,000 free inbound minutes per month and once they have been used 0.5 pence per minute for all calls received after that).

9) It’s possible to see the geographic location of callers and the busy periods of the organisation using online call statistics packages.

10) 0300 numbers and their features are fully controlled online. No additional hardware or equipment is needed and settings can be changed at any time and from anywhere with an internet connection. The importance of good health advice cant be understated and the use of a free call line to ensure that people are able to call it no matter your monetary status. 0300 numbers are the best way to supply a well known number to people so that they can get free advice.

Accessory Review Of The Plantronics Voyager Pro Bluetooth Headset

By jones · Tuesday, August 18th, 2009 · No Comments »

Cellular Accessories can make any phone a lot more fun. The Plantronics Bluetooth Headset is no exception. The Plantronics Voyager Pro Bluetooth Headset is a bulky, solid, old-school Bluetooth headset which has a large rotating boom mic of the kind that used to be associated with customer service reps from about ten years ago. The successor to the Voyager 510, one of the most popular premium headsets ever sold, the Voyager Prof measures 1.8 inches wide, or 4 whole inches with the boom mic extended, and it is 2.3 inches long by 0.4 of an inch thick. The weight of the device is distributed towards the back of the ear, making for balance and comfort. A large battery wraps around the back of the ear, which is also where the power button happens to be located. The volume rocker sits atop the headset, over the ear, and the call button is situated behind the earpiece, which can be fitted in either ear. Rubbery gel covers for the earpiece are provided in two sizes, and do not intrude too deeply into the ear canal. Foam bud covers, however, are provided in only one size. The rotating boom mic extends from the earpiece and can be flipped around for use on either side of the head. The boom can also be set closer to the mouth or more compactly against the face. At the tip of the boom mic are two screens that act as a barrier against wind-noise. In addition, the Voyager Pro offers a built-in electronic filter in its circuitry, along with Plantronics’ Audio IQ2 noise cancellation software, which all works to reduce static and other noise without a noticeable loss in sound clarity. The headset doesn’t currently support single-ear stereo, however, though such a feature could be possible with nothing more than a firmware update in the future.

The Plantronics Voyager Pro is able to answer, reject, or end calls, and features call waiting, call mute, last number redial, and the ability to connect with another headset. Official talk time is 6 hours, and standby can be up to five whole days. A full charge typically takes ninety minutes. Verizon Wireless subscribers should note that a normal Voyager Pro headset will play a special musical tone upon connection to a Verizon phone. Because many Verizon phones save power by timing out their active connections and switching into passive mode, this tone will be played quite often when waking up the phone and switching it back to active mode when in use again, so be sure to get the special Verizon version of the Plantronics Voyager Pro, available only at Verizon Wireless stores.

Mobile Phone Accessory Analysis: Plantronics Voyager 835 Bluetooth Headset

By jones · Tuesday, August 18th, 2009 · No Comments »

Cellular Accessories are always in high demand. Items like the Plantronics Bluetooth Headset are very popular. Open the retail box of the Plantronics Voyager 835 Bluetooth Headset and you’ll find its instruction manual, its charger, an L-shaped car charger, and the headset itself. The car charger eliminates the need for a cord by simply interfacing between the car’s AC power outlet and the Voyager 835, which measures 2.1 inches long, 0.6 of an inch wide, 0.4 of an inch thick, and weighs 0.4 of an ounce. This headset is the first-ever such product from Plantronics to offer dual microphones, which help to further enhance audio quality while the patented AudioIQ software works in the background to filter out ambient noise. The Voyager 835’s Windsmart technology makes one microphone capture the noise as the other one focuses on the user’s voice. This also means much increased clarity for both sides of a call. The microphones are omnidirectional, which means that they needn’t be too carefully aligned for the best sound quality. Two volume buttons are located on the right side, with the propriety USB-styled charging jack on top of them. These buttons are easily accessible, though fairly small. At the end of the earpiece is a rubberized earbud and a flexible translucent plastic ear hook; the earbud acts as an anchor, and fits snugly within the outer folds of your ear, while the hook can be twisted around so that the headset can be used on either side of the head.

With a basic list of features and a slim business-like design, this headset is clearly being marketed to busy mobile professionals. The Voyager 835’s list of standard capabilities means support for the likes of call rejection, call waiting, and last-number redial and voice-activated dialing where available. The 835 can also transfer calls from the phone to the headset and vice-versa. It offers multipoint pairing so that two Bluetooth headsets can be connected at a single time, with the Plantronics Quickpair process automatically detecting other devices upon power-on; thus, for example, the headset will always automatically find your phone when turned on. Near the top of the headset resides a multiple function button in a recessed area, with an LED indicator next to the housing for one of the two microphones, with the second microphone located at the bottom of the headset. Calls are answered and ended by tapping this multi-function button, and battery power can be checked by holding down both the button along with the volume-down button simultaneously for about two seconds: the fast the LED flashes, the less power there is remaining. Talk time is rated at five hours, with standby clocking in seven whole days.

Review Of The Sony Ericsson W980 Cell Phone

By jones · Tuesday, August 18th, 2009 · No Comments »

There are many ways a person can enjoy a cell phone. One of them is to purchase Cellular Accessories. They can make any phone that much more enjoyable. One phone you can buy accessories for is the Sony Ericsson W980.

The Sony Ericsson W980 is the newest music phone to arrive on the market. For those who don’t know, all of the phones in the “W” series are in the Walkman class, which means their function is primarily for music and telephone use. It includes 8GB of storage for music tracks, so a music lover has a great deal of room to download his or her favorite tracks for portability. Unfortunately this model doesn’t have a slot for memory card expansion but with 8 GB already available on internal memory, it is unlikely one should need any additional memory.

Like all of the Sony Ericsson music phones, they are high in quality for the music but the camera is mediocre at best. The 3.2 megapixel phone does not have auto focus or flash. It is a good basic camera phone for situations that do not require the use of a flash. As with most Sony Ericsson phones, this one is specialized for music and not camera use. That is certainly not a negative feature by any means because when you’re looking for a music phone you want great quality which you will find with the W980.

Nokia A Brief Look Back

By jones · Monday, August 17th, 2009 · No Comments »

In this day and age there are many electronics which are very popular, such as Professional Digital SLR Cameras, Unlocked GSM Cell Phones, and Televisions. There are a lot of companies putting out Unlocked GSM Cell Phones. One such company is Nokia. Nokia Corporation is a Finnish company known throughout the world for many introductions and advancements, with headquarters in Keilaniemi, Espoo, right outside the country’s capital of Helsinki. The company is a multinational provider of cellular telephone manufacturing. The company employs thousands people throughout 120 countries all around the world, with sales in over 150 countries and annual revenues of well over seventy billion dollars.

The company operates research and development facilities worldwide with a staff that represents approximately 31 percent of its entire workforce. The limited liability company is listed and publicly traded on the Helsinki, Frankfurt, and New York stock exchanges. They plays a very large role in the economy of Finland, being by far one of the largest Finnish companies and making up about a third of the entire market capitalization of the Helsinki Stock Exchange. As can be imagined, the company is an important employer in Finland, responsible for three and a half percent of the nation’s Gross Domestic Product in 2004. The company is very important in Finland culture as it provides the country with so many jobs and forms of employment. From humble beginnings as, among other things, a rubber and cables manufacturer, the company was within reasonable reach to become a producer of mobile handsets through its many investments in related fields, giving it the necessary technology and equipment.

Electronic products, however, affect the environment both during production and after their useful life when they are discarded. The company has a reputation among environmental organizations, even some of the most vocal and militant ones like Greenpeace. With a good track record in trying to limit the amount of toxic chemicals in its products, especially when compared to other organizations in the electronics industry. They also support recycling and reducing its carbon footprint. The company actively researches the use of recycled plastics in their products (currently, recycled plastics are used only for the packaging); recently, a concept-phone was introduced made entirely out of recyclable materials. Named Remade, the outer shell is made of recycled materials such as aluminum cans, plastic bottles, and used car tires, while the screen is constructed of recycled glass and the interior is comprised entirely of refurbished cell phone parts.

The company provides eco-declarations for all its products, and the company has a stated goal of making all products PVC-free by 2010. It also receives notoriety from environmentalists for providing customers with information on recycling company products.
