Personal Safety Benefits of Cell Phones
Love them or hate them, mobile (cell) phones are here to stay and more popular than ever. Their progression into staple tools of our lives has not always been a smooth one however. Certain groups of people claim that mobile phones are responsible for causing some cancers and others argue that they offer children a level of freedom that they are not ready for. However, what cannot be contested is the fact that mobile phones have helped connect people all over the world and in doing so made it a safer place
There was a dilemma faced by parents up and down the country when mobile phones finally arrived on the mass markets. It was obvious that allowing children access to a mobile phone could be very beneficial in terms of staying in touch with them and finding out if they are OK. On the other hand, parents had concerns about what their children would use their phones for and if having an expensive gadget would make them a target for thieves. After a couple of years it became obvious that the benefits far outweighed the risks, and soon every child in the developed world had their own phone on their bedside Tables. Additionally, when the ability to block stolen phones was developed, it almost eradicated phone thefts overnight. Children could now report in with their parents, phone for help if it were needed, and even warn others of potentially harm almost instantly.
It is not just children that are helped to be safe by mobiles phones either. Millions of adults have also benefited from using their mobiles to get out of dangerous situations, from being able to call for help after an avalanche, to delivering a baby via guidance over the phone from a midwife. By allowing people to stay in contact with those close by or the other side of the world, many thousands of lives have been saved and much harm prevented. As they develop also, we will find new ways of using them to our advantage and their potential for good is almost limitless.
